Welcome to the topic “Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch Review.”

The Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch is a great piece of kit for those on the go. It’s lightweight and has enough power to get most tasks done without any fuss. This article will cover what we like and dislike about it, and all the necessary details that will make your decision easier.

The MacBook Pro was released on May 7, 2020, and is widely available on the Apple store and from many other online retailers. The initial price of the Apple MacBook Pro is around $1,800 and includes a reliable 10th gen Core i5 processor along with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Plus, there are upgrade options available.

Design

As compared to the previous 16-inch MacBook Pro, this model features slim bezels, and this 13-inch MacBook Pro looks a bit old fashioned. I mean, there is nothing new, same old piece of aluminum. However, the casing is solid and robust but not that appealing.

The MacBook Pro 2020 measures around 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.61 inches, making it relatively heavier and thicker than the previous models. The machine weighs around 3.02 pounds, and it is 0.59 inches thick. The point is, if your top priority is design and look, this is not the right model for you.

Connectivity Options

If you opt for the initial model, there are not many options in terms of connectivity. To be precise, you will find two Thunderbolt 2 ports along with a headphone jack located on the machine’s right side. However, if you opt for an upgraded model, you will get four Thunderbolt 3 ports, so you can use and connect multiple devices at a time.

Magic Keyboard

Say goodbye to old-fashioned butterfly keyboards, and you will not miss them. Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro comes with an amazing Magic Keyboard, which utilizes scissor switches to get 1mm of key travel. Furthermore, combined with an exclusive rubber dome and new keycap design, your typing experience will be much more comfortable than ever before.

Moreover, the typing on Magic Keyboard feels smooth and soft, especially as compared to the old Butterfly keyboard. However, it also depends on your hands and your typing style. But generally, you will feel a massive difference when using this new magic keyboard.

Furthermore, the Magic Keyboard also has a dedicated physical Esc key which is a plus and handy. The arrow keys on the keyboard are also changed to an inverted-T arrangement, and you can easily find them while typing.

Picture Quality and Display

The MacBook Pro features a high screen resolution of 2560 x 1600-pixel, and it is the same as previous models. Still, it is one of the best out there, especially when you consider small screen size.

However, most users will miss a 4K option, but it delivers a bright and crisp panel that’s perfect for editing photos and watching videos.

Moreover, the display is bright enough to use outdoors in direct sunlight. The visibility is clear, and you can perform various chores outdoors.

During our testing, the MacBook Pro’s screen delivers 485 nits of brightness, significantly higher than the 4K version of the Dell XPS 13and the Spectre x360.

In terms of picture quality and color reproduction, the MacBook Pro 2020 supports the sRGB color gamut, and overall the picture quality is high and detailed.

In terms of color accuracy, Apple’s MacBook Pro display panel has an advantage over others. This is because it features a Delta-E score of 0.24. This result is similar to Dell’s XPS 13 4K version.

Sound Quality

Apple’s MacBook Pro sound quality is amazing and delivers authentic results every time you use it. The two built-in speakers that flank the keyboard deliver well-balanced and clear sound, with fantastic bass. While testing the unit, we played various music genres from pop to jazz to classic, and the results were great.

Keep in mind that Apple’s MacBook Pro is just a 13-inch laptop, so we were surprised by its exceptional stereo separation on various tracks. Hence full marks in terms of the sound quality.

Battery life

Perhaps it is the most prominent feature of the MacBook Pro 2020. The laptop’s battery life is strong and delivers all the power that you need. The machine lasted for a surprising 10 hours at around 150 nits of screen brightness. Moreover, its runtime is much higher than the Dell XPS 13 4K version and the HP Spectre x360.

Webcam Quality

As for the webcam’s quality of the MacBook Pro, we think it should be upgraded. The machine features a 720p resolution, and we find it a bit low as compared to the others and when you compare it with a high asking price of $1,300. In this modern era, Apple should seriously think about 1080p or full HD resolution.

However, the quality looks pretty good, and the webcam allows you to see even the minor details. But if you want enhanced details and crisper picture quality, you will have to upgrade the cam.

MacBook Pro 13-inch review: Final Thoughts

Overall, the Apple MacBook Pro 2020 excels in most departments, but the latest MacBook M1 is a much better option as it comes with Apple’s Silicon to provide much faster performance and incredible battery life.

The MacBook Pro 13-inch is a solid laptop that will meet your needs. It has enough power for students and professionals alike to get their work done without being too heavy or expensive. This MacBook Pro offers up everything you need in a small package, so it’s perfect for those who want the best of both worlds.

If you are looking for MacBook Pro alternatives, we recommend you to check out the Dell XPS 13 and HP Spectre x360 with sleeker designs and slimmer bezels.
